Through Him Our Little Is A lot Matthew 14:15-21 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.” Most Christians and a lot of non-Christians alike have heard the story of Jesus feeding the 5000. It’s taught to children and preached about in church. One of the many incredible miracles performed by Jesus during his time on earth. But I want to put aside for a second this incredible miracle itself and talk about the fact that his disciples - who only had 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish - even bothered to tell Jesus what they had. They knew it wasn’t enough, they knew there was no natural way to feed all these people with a what they had to offer. But they went and told him anyway. They offered what they had because they had faith that he could make the imposable possible, that he could take what little they had to offer and though him it could be enough to feed thousands. Whatever we have to offer whether we think it’s a lot or a little, through Him everything is possible, and he can take what you have and use it for his kingdom. Often, we don’t step out or step up because of fear we are not enough and that we will fail. But these disciples came to Jesus knowing what they had was not enough what trusting that he would make a way. So be encouraged and be bold, because all things are possible though Christ.
